Goal Update April 28, 2017 (YouTube, Amazon, Branding)

Goal Update April 28 2017
Sharing progress towards my Q2 goals.

You can catch up on all my goal updates here.

Starting in 2017, I began publicly sharing goals related to building my Amazon FBA business as well as growing The Bootstrap Boutique. I set quarterly goals and do a check in on YouTube every two weeks to keep you updated on my progress and to hold myself accountable to working consistently towards meeting these goals.

For the second quarter of 2017, I set the following goals for myself:

1) Launch a second YouTube Channel for my Private Label brand and schedule 2 months of videos (8 total)

2) Get my Private Label Brand brand registered at Amazon

3) Work on The Bootstrap Boutique Blog

4) Watch and comment on 20 Amazon Seller Videos per week

And finally, this isn’t a stated goal, but I plan to use my “theme days” to get it all done.

Theme days are:

Monday – Product Work

Tuesday – Private Label Brand

Wednesday: YouTube

Thursday: The Bootstrap Boutique Brand

Friday: Plan & Review

Watch today’s video to see my progress at accomplishing these goals.

You can watch this video at The Bootstrap Boutique Youtube Channel here.

AMAZON FBA: What Do You Do When Amazon Loses Your Inventory?

What do you do when Amazon loses your Inventory?

This is something that happens from time to time (it even happened to me on my very first shipment!).

When your inventory goes missing at Amazon, follow these steps to receive reimbursement from Amazon so you can replace your inventory as soon as possible!

Transcript:

1
00:00:00,000 –> 00:00:05,670
that didn’t take long hey welcome back

2
00:00:03,480 –> 00:00:06,930
for another episode of the bootstrap

3
00:00:05,670 –> 00:00:09,150
boutique where beginners built

4
00:00:06,930 –> 00:00:11,670
businesses today I want to tell you what

5
00:00:09,150 –> 00:00:14,549
to do when Amazon loses your inventory

6
00:00:11,670 –> 00:00:16,560
because Amazon is going to lose your

7
00:00:14,549 –> 00:00:19,170
inventory this actually happened to me

8
00:00:16,560 –> 00:00:22,619
in my very first shipment I was spending

9
00:00:19,170 –> 00:00:24,390
five cartons of product to Amazon and

10
00:00:22,619 –> 00:00:27,359
they had me split it up between three

11
00:00:24,390 –> 00:00:29,400
different warehouses so I sent two boxes

12
00:00:27,359 –> 00:00:31,170
to one more house two boxes to another

13
00:00:29,400 –> 00:00:33,360
warehouse and then one box to the third

14
00:00:31,170 –> 00:00:35,610
warehouse amazon does a really good job

15
00:00:33,360 –> 00:00:37,290
of keeping you up to date as they’re

16
00:00:35,610 –> 00:00:38,850
going through the shipping process so

17
00:00:37,290 –> 00:00:40,469
you print off your labels and you go

18
00:00:38,850 –> 00:00:42,360
ship it and you can track it just like

19
00:00:40,469 –> 00:00:44,010
any package that you track if you send

20
00:00:42,360 –> 00:00:46,230
it through ups and they will actually

21
00:00:44,010 –> 00:00:47,940
email you when all your marks is get to

22
00:00:46,230 –> 00:00:49,559
the facility when they’re checked in and

23
00:00:47,940 –> 00:00:50,969
then when they’re ready to go when I was

24
00:00:49,559 –> 00:00:52,410
sending in that first shipment i was

25
00:00:50,969 –> 00:00:55,140
watching everything really closely

26
00:00:52,410 –> 00:00:57,449
because i was so excited right and i

27
00:00:55,140 –> 00:01:00,270
noticed that one of my shipments of one

28
00:00:57,449 –> 00:01:02,370
that went to Philadelphia was missing a

29
00:01:00,270 –> 00:01:05,159
box it was supposed to be two boxes and

30
00:01:02,370 –> 00:01:08,040
they only checked in one and so I went

31
00:01:05,159 –> 00:01:09,810
through the process of figuring out how

32
00:01:08,040 –> 00:01:11,580
to get reimbursed by amazon when they

33
00:01:09,810 –> 00:01:13,080
lose your inventory today I’m going to

34
00:01:11,580 –> 00:01:14,909
walk you step-by-step through what you

35
00:01:13,080 –> 00:01:17,189
need to do to get Amazon to research

36
00:01:14,909 –> 00:01:18,990
those boxes when they inevitably do go

37
00:01:17,189 –> 00:01:21,150
missing and how to get your money back

38
00:01:18,990 –> 00:01:22,680
from amazon when that happened where did

39
00:01:21,150 –> 00:01:25,650
they go I mean it was just it was

40
00:01:22,680 –> 00:01:27,810
delivered it was shown delivered and so

41
00:01:25,650 –> 00:01:30,119
is there just like a pile of missing

42
00:01:27,810 –> 00:01:31,439
inventory at and as I understand it

43
00:01:30,119 –> 00:01:34,920
alright let’s go over to the computer

44
00:01:31,439 –> 00:01:37,380
and I’ll show you what to do alright so

45
00:01:34,920 –> 00:01:39,600
here we are at amazon seller central and

46
00:01:37,380 –> 00:01:41,729
if you’re thinking Megan that doesn’t

47
00:01:39,600 –> 00:01:43,680
actually like Amazon seller central you

48
00:01:41,729 –> 00:01:46,380
are correct i was having a really hard

49
00:01:43,680 –> 00:01:47,759
time with all the pouring that needs to

50
00:01:46,380 –> 00:01:49,530
happen to actually take you into my

51
00:01:47,759 –> 00:01:51,689
seller central account so i just decided

52
00:01:49,530 –> 00:01:54,030
to screen shots and stuff i think that

53
00:01:51,689 –> 00:01:56,040
would be a little bit easier going

54
00:01:54,030 –> 00:01:57,719
forward because just trying to use the

55
00:01:56,040 –> 00:01:59,610
blower feature on youtube you don’t care

56
00:01:57,719 –> 00:02:02,430
about this but it takes forever to get

57
00:01:59,610 –> 00:02:03,780
those videos to go through so this is

58
00:02:02,430 –> 00:02:05,430
what i’m going to do you’re just going

59
00:02:03,780 –> 00:02:07,469
to want to sign into your amazon account

60
00:02:05,430 –> 00:02:08,849
and then once you get to your home page

61
00:02:07,469 –> 00:02:11,250
you’re going to go up to inventory

62
00:02:08,849 –> 00:02:13,510
that’s in the top left-hand corner and

63
00:02:11,250 –> 00:02:16,510
choose the very last option now

64
00:02:13,510 –> 00:02:17,709
there which is managed FB a shipment so

65
00:02:16,510 –> 00:02:19,120
that is going to bring you up to your

66
00:02:17,709 –> 00:02:21,129
shipping queue which is going to show

67
00:02:19,120 –> 00:02:23,799
all the shipments as you have created to

68
00:02:21,129 –> 00:02:25,360
send into the Amazon warehouse and what

69
00:02:23,799 –> 00:02:27,579
you want to be looking for here is that

70
00:02:25,360 –> 00:02:29,829
the ship’s column and the receive column

71
00:02:27,579 –> 00:02:32,260
are the same so you’ll see on my first

72
00:02:29,829 –> 00:02:34,209
line item there I have 50 ships and

73
00:02:32,260 –> 00:02:36,250
fifty received the second one down I

74
00:02:34,209 –> 00:02:38,409
have 250 + 0 and then you’ll notice

75
00:02:36,250 –> 00:02:39,730
under the status is deleted that’s just

76
00:02:38,409 –> 00:02:42,849
something different that I was done

77
00:02:39,730 –> 00:02:44,590
testing out so nothing really to worry

78
00:02:42,849 –> 00:02:46,900
about too much there but you’ll notice

79
00:02:44,590 –> 00:02:49,480
that last line item might have on march

80
00:02:46,900 –> 00:02:52,030
forth there was 20 shift and only 10

81
00:02:49,480 –> 00:02:54,639
receive and so that is the issue that I

82
00:02:52,030 –> 00:02:55,930
saw and wanted to look into closer so

83
00:02:54,639 –> 00:02:58,200
you’re actually going to click when you

84
00:02:55,930 –> 00:03:00,790
see something like that that FB a

85
00:02:58,200 –> 00:03:02,260
hyperlink on the far right-hand side are

86
00:03:00,790 –> 00:03:04,299
sorry the far left-hand side that’s a

87
00:03:02,260 –> 00:03:07,720
hyperlink you click on that and it’s

88
00:03:04,299 –> 00:03:10,269
going to take you to where you can track

89
00:03:07,720 –> 00:03:12,690
your shipment and see all the status

90
00:03:10,269 –> 00:03:16,269
deliveries so here you’ll notice that

91
00:03:12,690 –> 00:03:18,069
this is it was shipped and that it was

92
00:03:16,269 –> 00:03:20,560
delivered on seven we’re in a second and

93
00:03:18,069 –> 00:03:23,139
it also has xbox one I only did a

94
00:03:20,560 –> 00:03:26,260
screenshot of box one of two but there’s

95
00:03:23,139 –> 00:03:28,750
two boxes they do this kind of break out

96
00:03:26,260 –> 00:03:31,090
of the tracking for each individual box

97
00:03:28,750 –> 00:03:34,030
that you ship and they both look the

98
00:03:31,090 –> 00:03:36,549
same flat screen shot either one so when

99
00:03:34,030 –> 00:03:38,349
that happens when you see that your

100
00:03:36,549 –> 00:03:40,419
items have been delivered but they’re

101
00:03:38,349 –> 00:03:42,910
not received they’re not checked in and

102
00:03:40,419 –> 00:03:45,459
not available to sell at amazon you want

103
00:03:42,910 –> 00:03:53,470
to go over to that third tab at the top

104
00:03:45,459 –> 00:03:56,319
this is reconciled once you do that it’s

105
00:03:53,470 –> 00:03:59,709
going to give you a date that you can

106
00:03:56,319 –> 00:04:01,120
request seller central to research it so

107
00:03:59,709 –> 00:04:02,709
they’re not going to do it like day one

108
00:04:01,120 –> 00:04:05,129
they give themselves a little bit of

109
00:04:02,709 –> 00:04:07,989
leeway to still find your inventory and

110
00:04:05,129 –> 00:04:09,970
so for me it was a date it was sometime

111
00:04:07,989 –> 00:04:12,639
in March early March when I could do it

112
00:04:09,970 –> 00:04:14,949
and I just made a note an asana to go in

113
00:04:12,639 –> 00:04:17,680
and check it and it still had not been

114
00:04:14,949 –> 00:04:19,479
found or recovered so I wouldn’t click

115
00:04:17,680 –> 00:04:21,609
that reconcile boxer and this is what

116
00:04:19,479 –> 00:04:23,830
they asked for they ask you to provide

117
00:04:21,609 –> 00:04:25,719
information about your box and you just

118
00:04:23,830 –> 00:04:26,460
really want to be as detailed as

119
00:04:25,719 –> 00:04:29,759
possible

120
00:04:26,460 –> 00:04:31,560
if you have pictures that’s great of

121
00:04:29,759 –> 00:04:33,419
what the box look for I there somewhere

122
00:04:31,560 –> 00:04:36,599
up here in the second part you can

123
00:04:33,419 –> 00:04:37,590
upload a document pictures anything else

124
00:04:36,599 –> 00:04:40,860
that you have that can help them

125
00:04:37,590 –> 00:04:42,960
identify I just put in that you know

126
00:04:40,860 –> 00:04:44,430
this is my box this is the size of it is

127
00:04:42,960 –> 00:04:46,319
the shipping of it this is what it said

128
00:04:44,430 –> 00:04:48,479
on the side it has the Amazon label on

129
00:04:46,319 –> 00:04:49,949
the top other than that I don’t know how

130
00:04:48,479 –> 00:04:53,340
many ways you can describe a brown

131
00:04:49,949 –> 00:04:55,979
cardboard box put in my UPC of the units

132
00:04:53,340 –> 00:04:59,849
as well as the F in sku just to be safe

133
00:04:55,979 –> 00:05:01,770
and any missed productivity I did

134
00:04:59,849 –> 00:05:03,720
include for these products that were

135
00:05:01,770 –> 00:05:06,810
shipping in that an F in sku didn’t

136
00:05:03,720 –> 00:05:09,180
needed to be added so did the preview

137
00:05:06,810 –> 00:05:10,889
request and what that does is it sends

138
00:05:09,180 –> 00:05:13,530
it off to seller central it creates a

139
00:05:10,889 –> 00:05:15,810
case flap they never define those ten

140
00:05:13,530 –> 00:05:17,340
units so the good news is once that you

141
00:05:15,810 –> 00:05:19,169
are able to go in and do the

142
00:05:17,340 –> 00:05:21,599
reconciliation process I was reimbursed

143
00:05:19,169 –> 00:05:23,610
pretty quickly and I just wanted to show

144
00:05:21,599 –> 00:05:27,569
you this is actually a screenshot just

145
00:05:23,610 –> 00:05:28,919
above that screen I just showed you that

146
00:05:27,569 –> 00:05:30,810
head it was like number two and number

147
00:05:28,919 –> 00:05:33,449
three this is what number one is where

148
00:05:30,810 –> 00:05:35,639
it shows your your FN sku your product

149
00:05:33,449 –> 00:05:37,110
that’s part i have great out the number

150
00:05:35,639 –> 00:05:40,830
show and then you’ll notice that it says

151
00:05:37,110 –> 00:05:42,690
located 20 in discrepancy of 0 but when

152
00:05:40,830 –> 00:05:46,289
you hover over that it says that Tim

153
00:05:42,690 –> 00:05:49,139
received and Tamara reimbursed so they

154
00:05:46,289 –> 00:05:52,500
did pay me the value of those goods last

155
00:05:49,139 –> 00:05:54,300
less their fees of course but they did

156
00:05:52,500 –> 00:05:56,039
they did reimburse that pretty quickly

157
00:05:54,300 –> 00:05:57,810
so i was able to get that cash back to

158
00:05:56,039 –> 00:06:00,180
my account pretty quickly takes a little

159
00:05:57,810 –> 00:06:01,919
water reconcile which makes sense i mean

160
00:06:00,180 –> 00:06:03,539
they do want to make sure that they

161
00:06:01,919 –> 00:06:05,219
actually confine your products they

162
00:06:03,539 –> 00:06:07,229
would prefer not to lose products i’m

163
00:06:05,219 –> 00:06:08,759
sure but once it was determined that

164
00:06:07,229 –> 00:06:10,469
those products more indeed lost eight

165
00:06:08,759 –> 00:06:12,180
they really work that about getting that

166
00:06:10,469 –> 00:06:14,820
me that money that pretty quickly so

167
00:06:12,180 –> 00:06:16,139
that’s the process that you are going to

168
00:06:14,820 –> 00:06:18,300
go through when you create your

169
00:06:16,139 –> 00:06:21,570
reconciliation request you’re going to

170
00:06:18,300 –> 00:06:24,780
be doing that through via email is how

171
00:06:21,570 –> 00:06:26,159
it went for me after that sub not really

172
00:06:24,780 –> 00:06:27,419
anything else is showing seller central

173
00:06:26,159 –> 00:06:29,159
they just send an email confirming

174
00:06:27,419 –> 00:06:30,780
receipt and then when they were going to

175
00:06:29,159 –> 00:06:33,539
reimburse me they sent another email

176
00:06:30,780 –> 00:06:35,610
saying hey yep it’s lost we’re going to

177
00:06:33,539 –> 00:06:37,560
send you you know however much money was

178
00:06:35,610 –> 00:06:39,690
one hundred sixty dollars forceps so

179
00:06:37,560 –> 00:06:40,139
that is all you have to do just the main

180
00:06:39,690 –> 00:06:41,879
thing is

181
00:06:40,139 –> 00:06:44,129
is you want to be really aware of

182
00:06:41,879 –> 00:06:45,629
whenever you’re shipping that everything

183
00:06:44,129 –> 00:06:47,729
that you should is getting checked in

184
00:06:45,629 –> 00:06:50,069
and made available to sell at the

185
00:06:47,729 –> 00:06:52,020
warehouse and that’s where you know a

186
00:06:50,069 –> 00:06:53,789
could potential if you’re not sitting on

187
00:06:52,020 –> 00:06:55,800
top of it it could go for a really long

188
00:06:53,789 –> 00:06:57,509
time so just don’t let that happen stay

189
00:06:55,800 –> 00:06:59,099
on top of your stuff that’s all I got

190
00:06:57,509 –> 00:07:01,169
for you this week guys I hope that was a

191
00:06:59,099 –> 00:07:03,979
helpful tutorial and I will talk to you

192
00:07:01,169 –> 00:07:03,979
next time take care

I recently asked my followers, “What you do want to hear from me in upcoming videos?”

The response was not what I expected.

Overwhelmingly, you said you wanted to hear more about me and my story.

So here it is, how I went from thinking “why would I want to start a business when I can get a job with benefits” to where I am today, selling on Amazon and sharing it with you.

I’d love to hear your story. Keep them coming in the comment section!

00:00:00,000 –> 00:00:05,970
be careful what you ask for you just

2
00:00:02,669 –> 00:00:07,710
might get it hey welcome back for

3
00:00:05,970 –> 00:00:08,970
another episode of the bootstrap

4
00:00:07,710 –> 00:00:10,920
boutique where beginners build

5
00:00:08,970 –> 00:00:13,080
businesses and i am glad you’re here

6
00:00:10,920 –> 00:00:15,450
because today we’re just going to talk

7
00:00:13,080 –> 00:00:18,630
about me like I’m an expert on that

8
00:00:15,450 –> 00:00:20,699
subject or something seriously though a

9
00:00:18,630 –> 00:00:22,439
couple of weeks ago doing video planning

10
00:00:20,699 –> 00:00:24,330
and I asked my Twitter followers what do

11
00:00:22,439 –> 00:00:26,160
you want to hear about from me and the

12
00:00:24,330 –> 00:00:29,039
overwhelming response was that you

13
00:00:26,160 –> 00:00:30,779
wanted to hear my story which was kind

14
00:00:29,039 –> 00:00:34,320
of surprising to me I’m not going to lie

15
00:00:30,779 –> 00:00:36,690
but also extremely flattering so I don’t

16
00:00:34,320 –> 00:00:38,910
have any notes or anything to share i

17
00:00:36,690 –> 00:00:40,770
mean i’ve got some notes for videos

18
00:00:38,910 –> 00:00:42,899
coming up so i’m going to do but i

19
00:00:40,770 –> 00:00:45,090
really just thought you know i’ll just

20
00:00:42,899 –> 00:00:47,789
get in front of the camera and tell you

21
00:00:45,090 –> 00:00:50,489
guys who i am and so that’s what we’re

22
00:00:47,789 –> 00:00:53,280
in for this week they’ll be helpful

23
00:00:50,489 –> 00:00:56,340
stuff next week don’t go away forever

24
00:00:53,280 –> 00:00:59,430
I’m not really even sure where to start

25
00:00:56,340 –> 00:01:01,260
with my story i will tell you that back

26
00:00:59,430 –> 00:01:03,650
when I was in college the university I

27
00:01:01,260 –> 00:01:07,439
was at was starting an entrepreneurship

28
00:01:03,650 –> 00:01:09,030
program and I was like that is not for

29
00:01:07,439 –> 00:01:12,119
me who wouldn’t want to go out and just

30
00:01:09,030 –> 00:01:14,610
like get a job get some benefits get

31
00:01:12,119 –> 00:01:17,040
some vacation days and just go about

32
00:01:14,610 –> 00:01:19,320
your life which I talked about in a

33
00:01:17,040 –> 00:01:21,180
previous video I did it’s called ISIL

34
00:01:19,320 –> 00:01:22,680
funny about the e word talking about so

35
00:01:21,180 –> 00:01:24,420
funny about the word entrepreneur and

36
00:01:22,680 –> 00:01:26,250
how it does not I don’t think apply to

37
00:01:24,420 –> 00:01:27,979
me at all so I was in school and I was

38
00:01:26,250 –> 00:01:30,030
just surrounded by all this high tech

39
00:01:27,979 –> 00:01:32,340
entrepreneurship stuff and it did not

40
00:01:30,030 –> 00:01:34,229
interest me at all it still doesn’t

41
00:01:32,340 –> 00:01:36,299
really like that kind of

42
00:01:34,229 –> 00:01:38,070
entrepreneurship you know the big

43
00:01:36,299 –> 00:01:40,829
starting a big company going to do a

44
00:01:38,070 –> 00:01:43,320
start-up going to you know give venture

45
00:01:40,829 –> 00:01:45,630
capital and all that stuff no that is

46
00:01:43,320 –> 00:01:47,280
not what I want so I did what everyone

47
00:01:45,630 –> 00:01:49,500
does and I was actually really lucky

48
00:01:47,280 –> 00:01:52,579
because i graduated in 2007 and got a

49
00:01:49,500 –> 00:01:56,159
job and the next graduating class and 08

50
00:01:52,579 –> 00:01:57,570
no jobs there were no jobs and I that’s

51
00:01:56,159 –> 00:01:59,790
like more time in my life that I can

52
00:01:57,570 –> 00:02:01,890
look back on and say I was really lucky

53
00:01:59,790 –> 00:02:03,840
to be where I was when I was because if

54
00:02:01,890 –> 00:02:06,540
I had been a year younger it would have

55
00:02:03,840 –> 00:02:08,399
been very difficult for me starting

56
00:02:06,540 –> 00:02:10,739
right out of college and even though I

57
00:02:08,399 –> 00:02:11,540
had a really good job I remember sitting

58
00:02:10,739 –> 00:02:13,849
in meetings

59
00:02:11,540 –> 00:02:15,469
my team in drawing out plans for a

60
00:02:13,849 –> 00:02:17,659
company that I wanted to start on the

61
00:02:15,469 –> 00:02:19,670
side I would go to the library on my

62
00:02:17,659 –> 00:02:21,349
lunch break and check out all these

63
00:02:19,670 –> 00:02:22,609
books about small business and I was

64
00:02:21,349 –> 00:02:24,980
like I don’t even know what I’m doing

65
00:02:22,609 –> 00:02:26,480
because I know nothing about nothing as

66
00:02:24,980 –> 00:02:28,790
far as starting a business or what it

67
00:02:26,480 –> 00:02:31,879
doesn’t even be about or what it would

68
00:02:28,790 –> 00:02:33,560
even do and it was all a little bit

69
00:02:31,879 –> 00:02:35,540
ridiculous and I knew that it was just a

70
00:02:33,560 –> 00:02:39,319
pipe dream it was something to kind of

71
00:02:35,540 –> 00:02:41,269
just do and think about instead of work

72
00:02:39,319 –> 00:02:43,849
because didn’t none of us ever

73
00:02:41,269 –> 00:02:47,269
procrastinate at work this was the time

74
00:02:43,849 –> 00:02:48,920
when etsy was becoming like a thing do

75
00:02:47,269 –> 00:02:50,689
you remember that and when the makers

76
00:02:48,920 –> 00:02:52,250
movement was first starting as he was

77
00:02:50,689 –> 00:02:54,079
like one of those first big movers to

78
00:02:52,250 –> 00:02:57,709
help small businesses and artisans and

79
00:02:54,079 –> 00:03:00,560
craftspeople to put their stuff online

80
00:02:57,709 –> 00:03:02,870
to sell and I fell in love with FC and I

81
00:03:00,560 –> 00:03:04,909
would read all of those small business

82
00:03:02,870 –> 00:03:06,500
owner profiles that they would put up I

83
00:03:04,909 –> 00:03:07,700
haven’t been on that CEO suffered a shop

84
00:03:06,500 –> 00:03:09,889
in a long time so I don’t know if they

85
00:03:07,700 –> 00:03:11,510
still do all that but back then they

86
00:03:09,889 –> 00:03:14,540
would they do profiles they have like a

87
00:03:11,510 –> 00:03:17,329
seller of a week and I was just so

88
00:03:14,540 –> 00:03:21,979
envious of them I was like I want to do

89
00:03:17,329 –> 00:03:24,889
this so i decided not really creative

90
00:03:21,979 –> 00:03:26,329
not really artistic can’t draw a stick

91
00:03:24,889 –> 00:03:29,090
figure that will click a stick figure

92
00:03:26,329 –> 00:03:30,889
back and follow a recipe so i can

93
00:03:29,090 –> 00:03:32,750
probably make soap and i could sell soap

94
00:03:30,889 –> 00:03:36,829
online i can do that on SD that’s going

95
00:03:32,750 –> 00:03:42,220
to be my thing so I I always dive in

96
00:03:36,829 –> 00:03:47,510
right I went and bought from a supplier

97
00:03:42,220 –> 00:03:49,729
like 50 pound per gallon jugs of

98
00:03:47,510 –> 00:03:51,319
supplies to make so because I was going

99
00:03:49,729 –> 00:03:53,690
to make so this is what I’m going to do

100
00:03:51,319 –> 00:03:57,439
this is what is going to get me starting

101
00:03:53,690 –> 00:04:01,419
a small business and I made soap and it

102
00:03:57,439 –> 00:04:04,519
was good so it was fun but I never

103
00:04:01,419 –> 00:04:07,639
really took it to the next step I gave

104
00:04:04,519 –> 00:04:09,769
it away I used it I did everything you

105
00:04:07,639 –> 00:04:12,109
can do with it but sell it like I I

106
00:04:09,769 –> 00:04:14,810
couldn’t take that logical next step of

107
00:04:12,109 –> 00:04:16,849
setting up an etsy store of making

108
00:04:14,810 –> 00:04:20,779
different recipes item 8 like I have

109
00:04:16,849 –> 00:04:22,820
made soap on and off since then I

110
00:04:20,779 –> 00:04:24,639
actually I was by paused because when we

111
00:04:22,820 –> 00:04:26,110
moved the last time

112
00:04:24,639 –> 00:04:27,699
I got rid of all that stuff because they

113
00:04:26,110 –> 00:04:29,590
have been sitting for a while and the

114
00:04:27,699 –> 00:04:31,240
ingredients and like this much left and

115
00:04:29,590 –> 00:04:33,879
they were probably Francis so i just

116
00:04:31,240 –> 00:04:35,860
threw him away but i have made so blank

117
00:04:33,879 –> 00:04:38,080
in the time since and even when I was no

118
00:04:35,860 –> 00:04:39,849
longer making soap as a business just

119
00:04:38,080 –> 00:04:41,620
because it’s nice to have in my husband

120
00:04:39,849 –> 00:04:43,150
I really enjoyed it but I didn’t have I

121
00:04:41,620 –> 00:04:46,629
don’t know if it’s the confidence I

122
00:04:43,150 –> 00:04:48,639
don’t know if it was the Y and then

123
00:04:46,629 –> 00:04:50,379
having big enough why I don’t know what

124
00:04:48,639 –> 00:04:54,300
it was that I never took the step for

125
00:04:50,379 –> 00:04:57,310
making soap to selling soap and so that

126
00:04:54,300 –> 00:04:59,259
died just died and it was okay i had a

127
00:04:57,310 –> 00:05:02,289
lot going on i was working really hard

128
00:04:59,259 –> 00:05:03,849
long hours i was getting married shortly

129
00:05:02,289 –> 00:05:06,460
after my husband i got married we moved

130
00:05:03,849 –> 00:05:09,159
from North Carolina down to Louisiana

131
00:05:06,460 –> 00:05:10,180
and so there’s this other stuff going on

132
00:05:09,159 –> 00:05:12,009
it’s one of those things where you just

133
00:05:10,180 –> 00:05:13,659
kind of like bury your head you know

134
00:05:12,009 –> 00:05:16,120
nose to the grindstone and you just

135
00:05:13,659 –> 00:05:17,949
really work hard at a lot of stuff and

136
00:05:16,120 –> 00:05:19,719
you don’t think about these dreams that

137
00:05:17,949 –> 00:05:20,949
you kind of put on the shelf right have

138
00:05:19,719 –> 00:05:22,330
you ever been there have you ever done

139
00:05:20,949 –> 00:05:24,099
that where you realize you’re just so

140
00:05:22,330 –> 00:05:27,279
focused on what you’re doing day to day

141
00:05:24,099 –> 00:05:28,449
that the things you really value and the

142
00:05:27,279 –> 00:05:30,370
things you really want to do in life

143
00:05:28,449 –> 00:05:33,759
whether it’s start a business or travel

144
00:05:30,370 –> 00:05:37,089
or whatever just put on the shelf and it

145
00:05:33,759 –> 00:05:38,740
just sits there let’s all stop you in

146
00:05:37,089 –> 00:05:41,560
that okay so my husband and I moved to

147
00:05:38,740 –> 00:05:43,300
louisiana for his work and i had to

148
00:05:41,560 –> 00:05:46,539
leave my job a pretty good job that I

149
00:05:43,300 –> 00:05:49,089
had and basically start over for two

150
00:05:46,539 –> 00:05:50,560
months I was unemployed and I know what

151
00:05:49,089 –> 00:05:52,710
you’re thinking you’re like oh man that

152
00:05:50,560 –> 00:05:57,039
is the perfect time to start a business

153
00:05:52,710 –> 00:05:59,289
we were so broke that I was afraid to

154
00:05:57,039 –> 00:06:01,389
drive my car because I didn’t want to

155
00:05:59,289 –> 00:06:03,370
put in gas money I literally a kid you

156
00:06:01,389 –> 00:06:05,020
know I think I made one tank of gas last

157
00:06:03,370 –> 00:06:07,569
for like two months when we live down

158
00:06:05,020 –> 00:06:09,969
there and as soon as my husband was

159
00:06:07,569 –> 00:06:12,039
working as an intern and he was getting

160
00:06:09,969 –> 00:06:15,129
paid like below the poverty level it was

161
00:06:12,039 –> 00:06:18,219
really bad especially if you made it

162
00:06:15,129 –> 00:06:20,050
like a per hourly rate it was really

163
00:06:18,219 –> 00:06:21,490
depressing so I’m not going to do that

164
00:06:20,050 –> 00:06:23,169
again I did it when we were down there

165
00:06:21,490 –> 00:06:24,849
and I was like well that’s awful and it

166
00:06:23,169 –> 00:06:27,370
is true that you don’t need a lot of

167
00:06:24,849 –> 00:06:28,990
money to start a business but typically

168
00:06:27,370 –> 00:06:30,490
you need some money there’s got to be

169
00:06:28,990 –> 00:06:32,560
some kind of capital and we basically

170
00:06:30,490 –> 00:06:33,789
spent all the money we had saved up I

171
00:06:32,560 –> 00:06:35,330
mean I’ve only been working for like

172
00:06:33,789 –> 00:06:37,970
three years at that point

173
00:06:35,330 –> 00:06:40,280
and I had saved a little bit of money

174
00:06:37,970 –> 00:06:44,810
but pretty much all of that guy used up

175
00:06:40,280 –> 00:06:46,939
in our move and so we had nothing we had

176
00:06:44,810 –> 00:06:49,039
nothing we were so happy we were like

177
00:06:46,939 –> 00:06:50,840
those young broke married freshly

178
00:06:49,039 –> 00:06:53,090
married kids you know like that

179
00:06:50,840 –> 00:06:54,919
stereotype that was us but we had no

180
00:06:53,090 –> 00:06:56,900
money I did try to do some freelance

181
00:06:54,919 –> 00:06:59,240
writing I was trying to do like grant

182
00:06:56,900 –> 00:07:02,060
writing on craigslist and pick up these

183
00:06:59,240 –> 00:07:03,949
like odd jobs and stuff it was it was

184
00:07:02,060 –> 00:07:06,080
very unfocused and nothing ever came of

185
00:07:03,949 –> 00:07:07,879
it so eventually I did get a job because

186
00:07:06,080 –> 00:07:09,440
I had one I had to do something I was

187
00:07:07,879 –> 00:07:13,969
going crazy sitting in the house and two

188
00:07:09,440 –> 00:07:15,560
weeks again had no money and so I got an

189
00:07:13,969 –> 00:07:17,509
hourly job at congesting like eight

190
00:07:15,560 –> 00:07:19,159
dollars an hour working at small but

191
00:07:17,509 –> 00:07:20,780
through that job I randomly met this

192
00:07:19,159 –> 00:07:22,280
little lady this customer that came in

193
00:07:20,780 –> 00:07:24,409
and we just kind of hit it off chatting

194
00:07:22,280 –> 00:07:26,300
and she offered me a job doing some

195
00:07:24,409 –> 00:07:28,099
admin work for her new business that she

196
00:07:26,300 –> 00:07:29,870
was starting she was going to pay me ten

197
00:07:28,099 –> 00:07:31,310
dollars an hour so it’s like hey this is

198
00:07:29,870 –> 00:07:33,080
great i can work here and make eight

199
00:07:31,310 –> 00:07:35,090
dollars an hour and i can work here make

200
00:07:33,080 –> 00:07:37,490
ten dollars an hour i did a lot of work

201
00:07:35,090 –> 00:07:41,539
from her from my house and so it was

202
00:07:37,490 –> 00:07:43,250
cool except for she didn’t really know

203
00:07:41,539 –> 00:07:45,169
what she was doing like I could not

204
00:07:43,250 –> 00:07:47,509
today tell you what her job was what her

205
00:07:45,169 –> 00:07:48,949
business was and she didn’t know what

206
00:07:47,509 –> 00:07:51,169
she really wanted me to do and so it

207
00:07:48,949 –> 00:07:54,889
ended up just not being a good fit and

208
00:07:51,169 –> 00:07:58,759
so we split ways so that was bad as far

209
00:07:54,889 –> 00:08:00,680
as working freelance for somebody it did

210
00:07:58,759 –> 00:08:02,599
not work for me it was not really a

211
00:08:00,680 –> 00:08:04,759
great experience to be honest not

212
00:08:02,599 –> 00:08:06,770
because she did anything wrong or I did

213
00:08:04,759 –> 00:08:08,000
anything wrong we just neither one of us

214
00:08:06,770 –> 00:08:09,889
knew what we were doing enough for we

215
00:08:08,000 –> 00:08:12,259
could actually make it work eventually

216
00:08:09,889 –> 00:08:14,750
living in Louisiana I dig it out of my

217
00:08:12,259 –> 00:08:18,050
field and so just continue to progress

218
00:08:14,750 –> 00:08:19,669
my day job career and actually did some

219
00:08:18,050 –> 00:08:21,830
things while I was down there that has

220
00:08:19,669 –> 00:08:24,319
really helped me sense so it all turned

221
00:08:21,830 –> 00:08:27,050
out fine so eventually we move from

222
00:08:24,319 –> 00:08:29,270
Louisiana to Kansas we have moved a lot

223
00:08:27,050 –> 00:08:31,370
in our marriage and I found a job

224
00:08:29,270 –> 00:08:33,349
working for the company that I work for

225
00:08:31,370 –> 00:08:35,089
now that has provided me a lot of

226
00:08:33,349 –> 00:08:36,409
professional growth a lot of learning

227
00:08:35,089 –> 00:08:38,510
opportunities and a lot of satisfaction

228
00:08:36,409 –> 00:08:41,360
really as far as what I do for my day

229
00:08:38,510 –> 00:08:43,699
job it’s it perfect no and during one of

230
00:08:41,360 –> 00:08:46,069
those very imperfect streets I found

231
00:08:43,699 –> 00:08:46,930
myself really going back to that dream

232
00:08:46,069 –> 00:08:49,540
on the shell

233
00:08:46,930 –> 00:08:52,720
of starting something that’s just mine

234
00:08:49,540 –> 00:08:54,730
just for me what can I do that no matter

235
00:08:52,720 –> 00:08:56,710
what happens something that I have that

236
00:08:54,730 –> 00:08:59,290
I can build on and at the end of the day

237
00:08:56,710 –> 00:09:02,649
I can look back on and say I did that

238
00:08:59,290 –> 00:09:05,740
and that’s awesome and I found amazon

239
00:09:02,649 –> 00:09:07,570
FBA so you know I listen to a lot of

240
00:09:05,740 –> 00:09:09,190
podcasts because I work from home during

241
00:09:07,570 –> 00:09:10,720
the day there’s nobody here it’s all too

242
00:09:09,190 –> 00:09:12,640
except for my dog has laying down there

243
00:09:10,720 –> 00:09:14,589
sleeping and the other dogs we believe I

244
00:09:12,640 –> 00:09:16,690
they’re sleeping sleeping is a very

245
00:09:14,589 –> 00:09:17,770
common theme for these dogs or 10 so

246
00:09:16,690 –> 00:09:19,990
they’re not really great

247
00:09:17,770 –> 00:09:21,459
conversationalist one of the podcast I

248
00:09:19,990 –> 00:09:23,110
was no a lot of stacking measurements

249
00:09:21,459 –> 00:09:24,550
and if you go back to gratitude week you

250
00:09:23,110 –> 00:09:26,050
can see where i talk all about stacking

251
00:09:24,550 –> 00:09:28,390
measurements and how fun those guys are

252
00:09:26,050 –> 00:09:30,339
so on Fridays Joe does roundtable

253
00:09:28,390 –> 00:09:32,040
interviews with different people and

254
00:09:30,339 –> 00:09:34,480
finance and blogging and

255
00:09:32,040 –> 00:09:35,920
entrepreneurship and whatever and he

256
00:09:34,480 –> 00:09:38,230
happened to have this guy owning Steve

257
00:09:35,920 –> 00:09:40,750
two of my wife quit her job and he was

258
00:09:38,230 –> 00:09:42,430
talking about his business bumblebee

259
00:09:40,750 –> 00:09:44,110
linens and my wife quit her job and he

260
00:09:42,430 –> 00:09:46,120
teaches a course on how to have an

261
00:09:44,110 –> 00:09:47,800
e-commerce course on us all all the

262
00:09:46,120 –> 00:09:49,510
stuff steve is also mentioned and

263
00:09:47,800 –> 00:09:51,430
gratitude week I was like oh that’s kind

264
00:09:49,510 –> 00:09:54,100
of interesting you know I’ll go check it

265
00:09:51,430 –> 00:09:55,900
out someday and I did hear one of these

266
00:09:54,100 –> 00:09:57,190
times when I was really struggling with

267
00:09:55,900 –> 00:09:58,630
something with my day job I was just

268
00:09:57,190 –> 00:10:00,490
having a hard time and I just needed to

269
00:09:58,630 –> 00:10:03,100
like not look at it for a couple of

270
00:10:00,490 –> 00:10:06,220
minutes and found my wife quit her job

271
00:10:03,100 –> 00:10:07,870
steve has done that blog for like more

272
00:10:06,220 –> 00:10:10,060
than five years I don’t know exactly how

273
00:10:07,870 –> 00:10:13,150
long and I’ve read like the whole thing

274
00:10:10,060 –> 00:10:15,760
in the matter of a couple of days and I

275
00:10:13,150 –> 00:10:18,520
was just really interested in e-commerce

276
00:10:15,760 –> 00:10:20,830
and thinking like wow this guy and his

277
00:10:18,520 –> 00:10:22,270
wife did this they set up this business

278
00:10:20,830 –> 00:10:25,360
because she wanted to quit her job I

279
00:10:22,270 –> 00:10:27,010
don’t want to quit my job but again I

280
00:10:25,360 –> 00:10:28,600
wanted to do something that is really

281
00:10:27,010 –> 00:10:32,709
just for me that nobody can take away

282
00:10:28,600 –> 00:10:34,600
and so that is very attractive Steve let

283
00:10:32,709 –> 00:10:36,550
me to Scott Vogler the amazing seller

284
00:10:34,600 –> 00:10:38,350
I’ve been on his podcast recently and

285
00:10:36,550 –> 00:10:41,130
really the rest is kind of history

286
00:10:38,350 –> 00:10:43,660
that’s what and focus on ever since is

287
00:10:41,130 –> 00:10:46,270
doing this amazon business and then also

288
00:10:43,660 –> 00:10:48,399
i created the bootstrap boutique because

289
00:10:46,270 –> 00:10:51,790
i thought back to that etsy store that i

290
00:10:48,399 –> 00:10:54,190
tried to star back in like 2008 and i

291
00:10:51,790 –> 00:10:55,750
realized the problem was there was no

292
00:10:54,190 –> 00:10:58,420
accountability I

293
00:10:55,750 –> 00:11:00,910
that you probably need that too there’s

294
00:10:58,420 –> 00:11:02,980
nothing pushing you to say hey I am

295
00:11:00,910 –> 00:11:04,510
accountable to make sure that this needs

296
00:11:02,980 –> 00:11:06,250
to get done every week so what would I

297
00:11:04,510 –> 00:11:10,510
do I would go home and watch movie watch

298
00:11:06,250 –> 00:11:12,070
TV pretty much anything but work on

299
00:11:10,510 –> 00:11:13,540
actually starting a business and I

300
00:11:12,070 –> 00:11:15,070
decided that this time I things are

301
00:11:13,540 –> 00:11:17,500
going to be different if I’m going to

302
00:11:15,070 –> 00:11:19,300
actually do this and not just keep it as

303
00:11:17,500 –> 00:11:21,490
a dream up on the shelf and I need to be

304
00:11:19,300 –> 00:11:23,140
accountable to somebody that’s where you

305
00:11:21,490 –> 00:11:24,820
come in that’s Blog so glad you’re here

306
00:11:23,140 –> 00:11:27,220
every week watching these videos and I

307
00:11:24,820 –> 00:11:29,200
hope that by sharing my story of how I

308
00:11:27,220 –> 00:11:30,670
got here of the mistakes and the

309
00:11:29,200 –> 00:11:32,470
pitfalls that I’ve made and the things

310
00:11:30,670 –> 00:11:34,540
that I’ve learned along the way that it

311
00:11:32,470 –> 00:11:38,350
will show you that you do not need to be

312
00:11:34,540 –> 00:11:40,960
perfect not close to it at all to just

313
00:11:38,350 –> 00:11:42,460
start this thing just try it the other

314
00:11:40,960 –> 00:11:44,500
thing I’ll share with you is that this

315
00:11:42,460 –> 00:11:46,630
has been by far the most fun

316
00:11:44,500 –> 00:11:49,570
extracurricular activity I have done as

317
00:11:46,630 –> 00:11:52,870
an adult I love to learn and if you’re

318
00:11:49,570 –> 00:11:55,020
watching YouTube videos about business

319
00:11:52,870 –> 00:11:57,790
by amazon about starting a business

320
00:11:55,020 –> 00:11:59,260
instead of the other things that are

321
00:11:57,790 –> 00:12:00,550
much more popular to watch on youtube

322
00:11:59,260 –> 00:12:03,310
then you’re probably in the same boat

323
00:12:00,550 –> 00:12:07,120
you probably love to learn also so my

324
00:12:03,310 –> 00:12:09,520
advice is one just try it start just do

325
00:12:07,120 –> 00:12:12,820
something because you won’t regret it so

326
00:12:09,520 –> 00:12:15,370
my advice is if you are interested in

327
00:12:12,820 –> 00:12:17,680
this at all just try it just start today

328
00:12:15,370 –> 00:12:20,320
you start very very small but smaller

329
00:12:17,680 –> 00:12:23,290
than I did the other thing I would tell

330
00:12:20,320 –> 00:12:25,450
you is I mean really this has been a lot

331
00:12:23,290 –> 00:12:25,760
of fun I have enjoyed every step of the

332
00:12:25,450 –> 00:12:43,379
way

333
00:12:25,760 –> 00:12:43,379

Goal Update April 14, 2017 (YouTube, Amazon, Branding)

Goal Update April 14 2017
Goal Update for April 14, 2017

Lets review the progress I’ve made so far!

1) Launch a second YouTube Channel for my Private Label brand and schedule 2 months of videos (8 total)

The channel hasn’t been created yet, but I do have about ten ideas of videos to shoot.  I have been doing keyword research on YouTube to see what types of videos I should film.

2) Get my Private Label Brand brand registered at Amazon

Amazon Brand Registry is currently closed and they are not taking any more applications until May 2017.

I’m worried that there will be a charge for this when it re-opens. My timing on these things is terrible.

3) Work on The Bootstrap Boutique Blog

Have not even started on this. I’ve looked at a few new themes but that’s it.

4) Watch and comment on 20 Amazon Seller Videos per week

I’ve watched and commented on 19 videos. I totally underestimated how long most Amazon videos are.

Watch today’s video to see my progress at accomplishing these goals.

How To Ship Private Label Products to Amazon

Shipping to Amazon seems to be a constant source of confusion for many new Amazon sellers. I created this walk through to show you how to create a shipping plan to get your private label products to the Amazon warehouse.

Due to the fact that I’m using my live listing, I have blurred out large portions of the screen, but everything you need to know is visible. Thanks for understanding.

warehouse how do you do that let’s talk

5
00:00:08,639 –> 00:00:14,099
about it hey welcome back for another

6
00:00:11,700 –> 00:00:15,990
episode of the bootstrap boutique where

7
00:00:14,099 –> 00:00:17,340
beginners build businesses today I’m

8
00:00:15,990 –> 00:00:19,949
going to show you how to set up a

9
00:00:17,340 –> 00:00:22,170
shipping plan and Amazon seller central

10
00:00:19,949 –> 00:00:25,140
this is what you have to do before you

11
00:00:22,170 –> 00:00:26,550
ship any products amazon so they know to

12
00:00:25,140 –> 00:00:28,320
look for your product on their loading

13
00:00:26,550 –> 00:00:30,929
dock so let’s go over to the computer

14
00:00:28,320 –> 00:00:32,759
and I will show you how to do it we’re

15
00:00:30,929 –> 00:00:34,770
going to talk about how to set up a

16
00:00:32,759 –> 00:00:36,960
shipping plan on amazon and all that

17
00:00:34,770 –> 00:00:38,760
means is the way that cheers how Amazon

18
00:00:36,960 –> 00:00:42,570
that you’re sending your stuff in so

19
00:00:38,760 –> 00:00:44,010
they’re on the lookout for it first

20
00:00:42,570 –> 00:00:46,200
thing you’re going to do is go to seller

21
00:00:44,010 –> 00:00:47,969
central and log into your account and

22
00:00:46,200 –> 00:00:49,350
again guys don’t let your inventory go

23
00:00:47,969 –> 00:00:51,360
out of stock once you start selling it

24
00:00:49,350 –> 00:00:53,579
is a bear to get that sales velocity

25
00:00:51,360 –> 00:00:55,379
back what we’re going to do though to

26
00:00:53,579 –> 00:00:56,789
set up our shipping plan to send in more

27
00:00:55,379 –> 00:00:59,730
inventory is we’re going to go to

28
00:00:56,789 –> 00:01:02,640
inventory and then come down to manage

29
00:00:59,730 –> 00:01:04,350
FBA inventory I’m going to click here to

30
00:01:02,640 –> 00:01:06,810
indicate the product I want and then

31
00:01:04,350 –> 00:01:13,170
from action on one selected i am going

32
00:01:06,810 –> 00:01:14,670
to sis a sin replenish inventory now

33
00:01:13,170 –> 00:01:17,009
because I’ve done this before I’ve got

34
00:01:14,670 –> 00:01:19,530
some information already in here like my

35
00:01:17,009 –> 00:01:21,750
ship from address that is just my home

36
00:01:19,530 –> 00:01:24,630
address because i have my inventory ship

37
00:01:21,750 –> 00:01:27,689
from china here to my house and and just

38
00:01:24,630 –> 00:01:31,320
sending in five boxes at a time 10 units

39
00:01:27,689 –> 00:01:34,229
50 units at a time as my inventory gets

40
00:01:31,320 –> 00:01:36,450
low and so because i am doing private

41
00:01:34,229 –> 00:01:39,689
label and all my units are the same i’m

42
00:01:36,450 –> 00:01:41,400
going to choose case packed products so

43
00:01:39,689 –> 00:01:43,350
that means everything that’s in the box

44
00:01:41,400 –> 00:01:45,930
that means everything that’s in the box

45
00:01:43,350 –> 00:01:47,640
is the same thing if I was doing retail

46
00:01:45,930 –> 00:01:49,860
arbitrage and I was sending you know

47
00:01:47,640 –> 00:01:51,930
five units of a book and like five pairs

48
00:01:49,860 –> 00:01:54,180
of shoes and then three toys and

49
00:01:51,930 –> 00:01:55,590
whatever then you would do individual

50
00:01:54,180 –> 00:01:57,299
products and that’s a whole different

51
00:01:55,590 –> 00:01:59,070
ball of wax set I’m not going to cover

52
00:01:57,299 –> 00:02:00,570
here today never done it so i wouldn’t

53
00:01:59,070 –> 00:02:02,369
want to steer you wrong wit k spy

54
00:02:00,570 –> 00:02:04,140
products mean everything is the same if

55
00:02:02,369 –> 00:02:05,610
you have questions of course you can

56
00:02:04,140 –> 00:02:07,049
always click on the links are pretty

57
00:02:05,610 –> 00:02:10,110
helpful and they do a good job walking

58
00:02:07,049 –> 00:02:11,730
you through what you need to do for the

59
00:02:10,110 –> 00:02:14,010
different types of product packaging

60
00:02:11,730 –> 00:02:16,230
that you get now this is an important

61
00:02:14,010 –> 00:02:17,970
part of the process because you’ve got

62
00:02:16,230 –> 00:02:20,489
to make sure that you’ve got the right

63
00:02:17,970 –> 00:02:22,890
information over here you need to make

64
00:02:20,489 –> 00:02:24,780
sure that each unit per case is the same

65
00:02:22,890 –> 00:02:26,099
otherwise I don’t know how you do it

66
00:02:24,780 –> 00:02:28,260
this isn’t going to work but if you have

67
00:02:26,099 –> 00:02:30,599
for some reason like I have one box that

68
00:02:28,260 –> 00:02:32,790
i took a unit out of so it only has nine

69
00:02:30,599 –> 00:02:34,440
because I send that off to get pictures

70
00:02:32,790 –> 00:02:36,120
taken obviously the guys torn out of the

71
00:02:34,440 –> 00:02:37,980
package it’s not going to go back in

72
00:02:36,120 –> 00:02:41,790
well so i’m just going to write those

73
00:02:37,980 –> 00:02:43,829
off that when i would send i would just

74
00:02:41,790 –> 00:02:45,689
send it on its own shipment so that i

75
00:02:43,829 –> 00:02:48,450
was just sending one case with nine

76
00:02:45,689 –> 00:02:50,250
units instead of four cases with ten

77
00:02:48,450 –> 00:02:51,840
units and one of nine does that make

78
00:02:50,250 –> 00:02:54,480
does that make sense just try and keep

79
00:02:51,840 –> 00:02:57,870
all of your units per case the same so

80
00:02:54,480 –> 00:02:59,430
in this example for my product I have 10

81
00:02:57,870 –> 00:03:01,980
units per case and I’m going to send

82
00:02:59,430 –> 00:03:05,430
five so we’re going to send a total of

83
00:03:01,980 –> 00:03:07,349
fifty units we’re going to hit continue

84
00:03:05,430 –> 00:03:09,720
because that is correct now you’re going

85
00:03:07,349 –> 00:03:12,090
to be asked for prep guidance anything

86
00:03:09,720 –> 00:03:13,650
that you can prep yourself obviously is

87
00:03:12,090 –> 00:03:15,269
going to save you money but you do have

88
00:03:13,650 –> 00:03:18,030
the option of if you have a unit that

89
00:03:15,269 –> 00:03:22,069
needs something specific done to an

90
00:03:18,030 –> 00:03:22,069
Amazon will do it but for a fee

91
00:03:26,450 –> 00:03:30,920
the next page is about labeling now if

92
00:03:29,180 –> 00:03:33,410
you guys remember back to a previous

93
00:03:30,920 –> 00:03:35,510
video I did about mistakes I made on

94
00:03:33,410 –> 00:03:37,970
getting started selling on Amazon then

95
00:03:35,510 –> 00:03:40,519
you recall that I did not have my FN sku

96
00:03:37,970 –> 00:03:43,160
added to my product labeling which was a

97
00:03:40,519 –> 00:03:45,230
bad idea but that is why you will see

98
00:03:43,160 –> 00:03:47,450
that i have four under labeling required

99
00:03:45,230 –> 00:03:50,540
and who labels amazon and so i’m getting

100
00:03:47,450 –> 00:03:53,480
charged ten dollars for amazon to apply

101
00:03:50,540 –> 00:03:55,849
those FNS k use for me if I could do it

102
00:03:53,480 –> 00:03:57,530
myself the chance I could do it myself

103
00:03:55,849 –> 00:03:59,090
and I don’t think I have the right

104
00:03:57,530 –> 00:04:00,590
equipment to do it then I would do it

105
00:03:59,090 –> 00:04:02,420
save that ten dollars but that’s why

106
00:04:00,590 –> 00:04:05,720
you’ll see here amazon if you have your

107
00:04:02,420 –> 00:04:07,459
SN sku on the product then you don’t

108
00:04:05,720 –> 00:04:09,920
have to have it set up this way which is

109
00:04:07,459 –> 00:04:11,420
good news so we’re just going to hit

110
00:04:09,920 –> 00:04:13,430
continue we’re going to review our

111
00:04:11,420 –> 00:04:16,340
shipment now i think i’m getting a

112
00:04:13,430 –> 00:04:18,650
little bit lucky here because they’re

113
00:04:16,340 –> 00:04:21,799
actually sending all five cases to the

114
00:04:18,650 –> 00:04:23,510
same location and Charlotte a lot of

115
00:04:21,799 –> 00:04:26,030
times what happens is that you have to

116
00:04:23,510 –> 00:04:28,220
individually send your units two

117
00:04:26,030 –> 00:04:29,840
different fulfillment center so you

118
00:04:28,220 –> 00:04:33,590
might be sending to Pennsylvania and

119
00:04:29,840 –> 00:04:35,900
Charlotte and Texas and California all

120
00:04:33,590 –> 00:04:38,479
out of the same batch of products you

121
00:04:35,900 –> 00:04:41,150
want to ship of it but I can’t make

122
00:04:38,479 –> 00:04:44,510
heads or tails of which way it goes and

123
00:04:41,150 –> 00:04:46,190
why I it’s kind of a weird thing but

124
00:04:44,510 –> 00:04:47,960
when I get where i can ship everything

125
00:04:46,190 –> 00:04:50,180
to the same place and that makes me

126
00:04:47,960 –> 00:04:52,280
actually pretty happy so i’m going to go

127
00:04:50,180 –> 00:04:54,950
ahead and approve the shipment and then

128
00:04:52,280 –> 00:04:57,680
we’ll see how much it’s going to cost so

129
00:04:54,950 –> 00:05:01,970
here we have got our shipment created

130
00:04:57,680 –> 00:05:03,590
and we are going to work on shipment now

131
00:05:01,970 –> 00:05:05,570
here are me s to review my shipment

132
00:05:03,590 –> 00:05:07,580
contents so as you can see here there’s

133
00:05:05,570 –> 00:05:09,380
a couple of different options here small

134
00:05:07,580 –> 00:05:12,950
parcel delivery less-than-truckload

135
00:05:09,380 –> 00:05:14,150
which i’m going to do small parcel

136
00:05:12,950 –> 00:05:17,330
delivery because i am shipping

137
00:05:14,150 –> 00:05:20,780
individual boxes i understand that if

138
00:05:17,330 –> 00:05:22,610
you can ship in pallets that that will

139
00:05:20,780 –> 00:05:24,139
save you quite a bit of money but i’m

140
00:05:22,610 –> 00:05:28,130
just not there i don’t know if my whole

141
00:05:24,139 –> 00:05:29,599
shipment that i have is 150 pounds now i

142
00:05:28,130 –> 00:05:31,460
understand if you can do this

143
00:05:29,599 –> 00:05:32,960
less-than-truckload that it can save you

144
00:05:31,460 –> 00:05:34,669
quite a bit of money if you’re shipping

145
00:05:32,960 –> 00:05:36,919
enough to make up a palette but i’m not

146
00:05:34,669 –> 00:05:38,000
so that’s not even an option for me not

147
00:05:36,919 –> 00:05:40,040
going to worry about it just going to

148
00:05:38,000 –> 00:05:43,220
stick with individual boxes

149
00:05:40,040 –> 00:05:45,590
I understand UPS is the most deeply

150
00:05:43,220 –> 00:05:47,330
discounted carrier so we’re going to go

151
00:05:45,590 –> 00:05:49,850
with them also how will this shouldn’t

152
00:05:47,330 –> 00:05:51,620
it be packed everything is in one box or

153
00:05:49,850 –> 00:05:53,660
multiple boxes in this case for shipping

154
00:05:51,620 –> 00:05:55,190
five now this is kind of funny to me

155
00:05:53,660 –> 00:05:57,050
because it’s like you know what I

156
00:05:55,190 –> 00:05:59,240
already told you that in a previous

157
00:05:57,050 –> 00:06:01,490
screen but they asked for it again so

158
00:05:59,240 –> 00:06:04,280
we’re just going to give them the

159
00:06:01,490 –> 00:06:06,860
information they want shipment quantity

160
00:06:04,280 –> 00:06:08,360
is 50 units per box configuration this

161
00:06:06,860 –> 00:06:09,710
is what i’m telling you we already did

162
00:06:08,360 –> 00:06:12,920
this but we’re just going to do it again

163
00:06:09,710 –> 00:06:14,420
total box weight is 19 pounds and my box

164
00:06:12,920 –> 00:06:15,830
dimensions are hold on I’ve got this

165
00:06:14,420 –> 00:06:17,870
written down somewhere let me go find it

166
00:06:15,830 –> 00:06:19,910
in my box dimensions are 15 and a half

167
00:06:17,870 –> 00:06:22,880
inches by 15 and a half inches by 9

168
00:06:19,910 –> 00:06:25,370
inches so once I verified that that’s

169
00:06:22,880 –> 00:06:27,380
all right I’m going to hit confirm so as

170
00:06:25,370 –> 00:06:32,360
my box information has been successfully

171
00:06:27,380 –> 00:06:33,740
submitted next step you’re responsible

172
00:06:32,360 –> 00:06:35,540
for writing accurate shipment

173
00:06:33,740 –> 00:06:37,880
information in the accurate call so guys

174
00:06:35,540 –> 00:06:39,770
do not try and find your numbers just

175
00:06:37,880 –> 00:06:41,030
tell them what it is we’re going to go

176
00:06:39,770 –> 00:06:43,130
ahead and calculate our shipping cost

177
00:06:41,030 –> 00:06:46,100
twenty nine dollars and seventeen cents

178
00:06:43,130 –> 00:06:48,950
so as you can imagine that is showing

179
00:06:46,100 –> 00:06:51,410
that that’s pretty cheap for sending

180
00:06:48,950 –> 00:06:53,600
almost 100 pounds of product it’s not

181
00:06:51,410 –> 00:06:55,490
bad it’s not bad at all and a good thing

182
00:06:53,600 –> 00:06:56,900
here is you do have a day to change your

183
00:06:55,490 –> 00:07:00,230
mind if you want but I’m just going to

184
00:06:56,900 –> 00:07:01,760
go ahead and go ahead and shoot these in

185
00:07:00,230 –> 00:07:03,980
get them out of the house that’ll be

186
00:07:01,760 –> 00:07:06,050
just fine going to print box labels now

187
00:07:03,980 –> 00:07:08,330
and an important thing to remember when

188
00:07:06,050 –> 00:07:10,220
you’re printing these box labels is like

189
00:07:08,330 –> 00:07:12,020
in this case I have five boxes it’s

190
00:07:10,220 –> 00:07:15,350
going to give me five labels and I need

191
00:07:12,020 –> 00:07:16,820
to ship 5 or I need to rather print five

192
00:07:15,350 –> 00:07:20,450
labels because each one is different

193
00:07:16,820 –> 00:07:21,830
print it out those five shipping labels

194
00:07:20,450 –> 00:07:23,540
and now we’re just going to go to

195
00:07:21,830 –> 00:07:26,000
complete shipment so now you can see I

196
00:07:23,540 –> 00:07:28,280
have five ship boxes yours and I wait my

197
00:07:26,000 –> 00:07:30,440
dimensions on all the boxes tracking

198
00:07:28,280 –> 00:07:32,990
numbers all that good stuff so we will

199
00:07:30,440 –> 00:07:34,670
just go to return to shipping q once we

200
00:07:32,990 –> 00:07:37,610
go to the shipping q you’ll see our

201
00:07:34,670 –> 00:07:39,890
status for today is ready to ship once i

202
00:07:37,610 –> 00:07:41,570
drop off my boxes at the UPS store this

203
00:07:39,890 –> 00:07:43,220
afternoon then i’ll be able to come in

204
00:07:41,570 –> 00:07:44,390
here in track shipment and follow it all

205
00:07:43,220 –> 00:07:47,480
the way till it gets to its destination

206
00:07:44,390 –> 00:07:49,550
and gets put in the inventory so that is

207
00:07:47,480 –> 00:07:51,200
how you create a shipping plan if you

208
00:07:49,550 –> 00:07:53,200
are doing private label products for

209
00:07:51,200 –> 00:07:55,270
everything in the box is

210
00:07:53,200 –> 00:07:57,970
same obviously there’s some variations

211
00:07:55,270 –> 00:07:59,890
there but Amazon I think on this item at

212
00:07:57,970 –> 00:08:02,830
least that’s a pretty good job of having

213
00:07:59,890 –> 00:08:05,170
helpful hints around to help you

214
00:08:02,830 –> 00:08:07,240
understand what it is that you’re trying

215
00:08:05,170 –> 00:08:09,340
to do or look for if you have questions

216
00:08:07,240 –> 00:08:11,050
if you do have more questions I think a

217
00:08:09,340 –> 00:08:12,940
really good place to come is to look at

218
00:08:11,050 –> 00:08:15,640
these packaging and prep requirements

219
00:08:12,940 –> 00:08:17,440
that amazon has put out there’s a lot of

220
00:08:15,640 –> 00:08:19,240
different information that they can give

221
00:08:17,440 –> 00:08:22,210
you like how to package it inventory the

222
00:08:19,240 –> 00:08:24,820
Amazon so if your supplier maybe did not

223
00:08:22,210 –> 00:08:26,740
do a great job of packing the boxes to

224
00:08:24,820 –> 00:08:27,910
you and you need to repack it come in

225
00:08:26,740 –> 00:08:30,460
here and check out this how to create a

226
00:08:27,910 –> 00:08:33,250
shipment fulfillment by amazon it’s got

227
00:08:30,460 –> 00:08:34,510
the stuff on how to do it within seller

228
00:08:33,250 –> 00:08:37,030
central if you have any other questions

229
00:08:34,510 –> 00:08:39,400
on how to set up a shipping plan to ship

230
00:08:37,030 –> 00:08:40,900
private label products in the amazon be

231
00:08:39,400 –> 00:08:42,640
sure to leave them down in the comment

232
00:08:40,900 –> 00:08:44,950
box below and i will do my very very

233
00:08:42,640 –> 00:08:47,640
best answer them for you otherwise you

Amazon FBA: How to List Your First Product on Amazon

Are you ready to set up your first Amazon listing but not sure where to start? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. Just stay tuned.

Hey welcome back to another episode of The Bootstrap Boutique where beginners build businesses. Glad you’re here today because we’re going to go through setting up an Amazon FBA listing.

As you know, I recently started selling on Amazon and this is something that I was terrified of screwing up because it’s so important to have a good listing and that you get it right if you want to be found in search.

There’s lots of talk about “you’ve got to optimize your listing but what the heck does that look like? Well, we’re going to go through that in a video tutorial so let’s head over to the computer and I’ll show you what I mean.

How To List A Product In Seller Central

Now to list a product on Amazon the first thing you have to do is to go to Seller Central and enter your account information and sign in. Pretty basic right?

So here’s a lesson in why you don’t let your product go out of stock. Because that’s what I did and it has definitely hurt my sales.

But we’re going to talk about setting up your new inventory today.

Inventory

So we’re going to come up to Inventory and then I’m going to go down to the second option Manage FBA Inventory and click. Ok and that is going to bring up for us all the items that we have for sale currently that are active. So to create a new product we’re going to click over here, add a product.

And I’m just going to walk through how we’re going to list one new product at a time. So here we’re assuming that we have a private label product and we’re the only manufacturer so there’s no existing UPC, EAN, ISBN or ASIN.

Choose Your Category

So I’m going to click create a new product listing. Now the first thing we need to do is determine what product category this is going to be listed in. So what’s a very popular private label item? Maybe kitchen spatula? Spatula. Find category. And we’re just going to look under categories. So this is giving us lots of different options. I think the best one is going to be, if we’re selling single, singular kitchen spatula, Home & Garden – Kitchen Tools, Spatula is perfect. So we’re going to click that one.

Basic Info – Do Not Pass Go!

Now here we are going to go through several screens, each of these screens we are going to fill out.  To get it up there and created, just put in as much information as you can but know it doesn’t have to be everything. With the caveat that it does have to be these that have the red stars beside them. So we’re going to call this “red kitchen spatula.” This is so creative guys. Don’t call your product this.

Manufacturer, this could be, they’ve got some examples in here, Sony Kitchen Aid, Microsoft, we’re going to call this “Megan’s Awesome Private Label Products.” I should not type and talk at the same time. That’t the manufacturer, and the brand name is going to be “Megan’s Awesome Kitchen Stuff.” So good, right?

Product ID, you might be going “I don’t know what that means,” so you have to have a GCID, I don’t know what that is, a UPC or EAN to move forward. We obviously don’t have that because this is not a real product that I am going to sell so I’m just going to skip ahead.

But this is the part that could trip you up if you don’t have UPC codes or if you’re not brand registered. You’re able to do different stuff if you’re brand registered. So we’re going to skip that part so this is not going to go all the way live today but that was not our intention.

Variation

Variation, if you have a variation, if you had a red kitchen spatula and a blue kitchen spatula, if you had a 1 count and a 2 count, if you had a multipack, if you had a large and a small, this is where you would indicate that.

But we’re just going to say we have 1 red spatula, that’s all we have and so we’ll just move on.

Offer

The offer, this is the other thing that we have to have. Now you can put it as inactive and add it back in later, but let’s say that in your package you’re going to have 1, shipping template we can skip that. Condition, new. The price. This is the price that, it’s not the sale price.

So you know that if you go onto am Amazon listing page and you’ll see a price and it’s marked through, and then there will be the sales price and the you saved percentage, this is that price that gets marked through.

So let’s say you’re going to sell your kitchen spatula for 19.99, good luck finding any takers on that. Maybe its a very special spatula.

Images

And here you would choose some files so you do have to have pictures in order for your listing to be live because Amazon is not going to try and sell your stuff with no pictures, because nobody is going to buy it and that’s wasting their space. So what we’re going to do is make sure when you get your product photos taken that you send your photographer this information right here. The really important ones I think, 85% of the image should be taken up with your picture, you don’t want a teeny tiny little picture of your object and all that white space around it because nobody can see it.

And images are very important because we’re visually driven people, most of us and we want to buy based off a picture if we can’t actually hold it in our hands, that’s the next best thing. Another important thing about pictures that people don’t do a lot of the time is no props, or few or no props, no logos, no watermarks.

It should only contain text that is part of the product, so if you have something that says “100% Satisfaction Guarantee” that’s not on the product it’s just text you added over the picture, Amazon may or may not, because they are not always consistent on this, but you are at risk for having your product removed or supressed or whatever because somebody saw it and decided they didn’t like that. So just be aware.

The main image should have a pure white background, I think that’s to help it 1 to stand out and then 2 to kind of integrate with Amazon’s background with what they show on their product page. It’s just a white background and so products are just really popping and I see stuff all the time when I’m digging around in the very niche-y parts of Amazon where that’s not the case but just know that that is one of their guidelines.

The other ones are pixel related and graphics format related and that’s pretty standard but those top 3 guys make sure when you get your pictures taken that you’re doing that. So what we would do if we had pictures, we would just choose file and upload. Very simple.

Product Features and Description

Now, key product features and product description. I’m actually going to open up a new Amazon tab just so you can see where this information, my computer is so slow. Where this information is going to flow to a detail page. So let’s actually go look at a red kitchen spatula.

Ok, see why I said good luck selling yours for 25 dollars or whatever the price was, 19 dollars?

So what you see here, when you look at a product listing you’ve got some bullet points right here and here is the product description. And that’s what we have here.

Key product features, those are your bullet points. So we might say  Bright Red so it never gets lost. Is that true? I don’t know. Then you would add more, you can add, what is it, 5 of these? Maybe its silicone keeps your non-stick pans in top shape. Cook like a pro.  T

his isn’t really what you would want to say in a real listing, this is where you are really going to talk about the benefits of your product, not the features of your product. Even though it says features, we sell with benefits, not features.

Product description, so again, this equals this. So here they say “Kitchen Aid turner is designed for great control in lifting and cooking food.” So this person that listed this, I don’t know if it’s Kitchen Aid or if its a wholesaler, they just came in here and said “this turner is great for cooking food. Cook like a pro chef.” Right and then they just said whatever whatever whatever.

When you do that, when you just come in here and you take, even if we came down here and hit return a couple of times and we said “Buy today!” Whatever, I don’t know why you’d say that. It’s still going to translate like this to Amazon. No formatting comes over unless you actually put in some html.

So you could come in here and do line break and then I think I had to do an end line break. Maybe you want to come in here and say bold and then stop the bold. But these are things, you can do a little bit of light formatting here but if any of you guys know html, if you know CSS you cannot go crazy.

Not in a standard product listing, you can do a little bit more if you have enhanced brand content, but really you can’t do anymore than a little bit of very light html per Amazon without getting in trouble.

So what you’re going to do here is you’re going to go in and put in your bullet points and you’re going to talk about the features of your product and the pain points that it sells. Then you’re going to come in the description and you’re going to elaborate on that further and give people reasons, make them want to buy your product.

Here’s something important to remember, in your vital info, which is your product name, in your description, your features and your description portion, Amazon is going to look at all the words that you use here as keywords for search. So all of these things are going to be scraped for search.

Keywords

So, what is this for? Why do we have this whole keywords section? You learn about all the different, how many characters you can put in each line of search terms and all that. This is for, I believe and the way I’m using it, it’s for things that, it could come up for in search, but it doesn’t really make sense for. So maybe, over here you might be talking about “use this turner to make great scrambled eggs.” I don’t know, I’m calling it a turner now because they did.  Use this spatula.

But here you might think, well, what else could we use it for? Pancakes, sausage? Flipping chicken breasts? Hamburgers, I don’t know. But when you spend a lot of time doing this then you start to think up all these alternate uses for your product but it’s not going to be the main use, its not going to be what most people are coming to find. So back here you might say pancake or sausage or hamburger. Or what’s something that’s not food related at all that you might use a spatula for? I didn’t spell hamburger right. Maybe it’s a jammed lock?

But you use search terms in the back end for things people may be searching for but doesn’t make sense for your listing. Target audience I think is pretty self explanatory and you really just come in here and you pick who it’s for. And you can pick multiples so this could be seniors and it could be adults. Subject matter, kitchen. Cooking. Mother’s Day. Don’t give this to your mom for mother’s day. Don’t give her kitchen tools. Wedding gift. I can’t spell today guys.

There’s lots of different options on subject matter for things you can do. Other attributes, you can just continue to list things. And you can always hover to see what are the additional attributes of this product? That’s not super helpful. Intended use, cooking.

And you just, you go through and you fill this out as much as you possibly can for your product. And just remember that what you do not want to do is repeat words. So if you have cooking up here or you have cooking in your description, you probably don’t really want it down here. You want some other adverb, maybe grilling. Maybe don’t use this for grilling because the high heat, but you get the idea.

That will allow you to rank for the most search terms possible or at least have the potential to rank for the most search terms possible.

More Detail

The last is More Detail, so we’re going to put in shipping weight, you can choose from a couple of different measurements. In the United States we typically, we use pounds to measure, but if you’re getting it from China you might have kilograms of weight just because that’s what your supplier is giving you and of course you can convert it, or not.

So shipping weight, 15 – um not for a spatula. 1 pound? Half a pound? In this example fabric type doesn’t apply, but if you are selling something that is made of fabric they do have some guidelines here, just make sure that you look into those and you’re adhering to those.

So assuming that we went through and we actually put in, the only thing we are really missing here is our product ID and our images, we would be able to save and finish and you’re product would be populated and especially once you’ve got images up, then it would be live but you can suppress those listing until you have your product in inventory. Amazon is not going to sell stuff that they don’t have to sell if you’ve indicated that its FBA.

So you don’t have to worry about that. And that’s really step one on how to list your products to sell on Amazon. So the couple of things that you would need if you were doing this that we didn’t have, pictures being one and a UPC or other kind of identifier would be the second item. The next step would be to actually ship these into Amazon so you’ve got them there in stock.

We’re going to talk about how to do that, how to create a shipping plan on Amazon next time, so be sure you come back next week. And until then guys, take care!
